Printed vs. woven table runners
Two ways to dress a table with your brand. Here is which one suits the room you are dressing.
The short answer
Choose a printed runner when the runner is the branding: a trade show table, a demo, a reception or a retail display, where full-colour artwork on the front drop is the point. Choose a woven or linen-feel runner when the room is the brand: a restaurant or hotel that launders nightly and needs a runner that lies flat and keeps its colour. Customized Table Runners makes both, from 12 runners. See printed show runners or linen and woven runners.
Side by side
| Printed runner | Woven or linen-feel runner | |
|---|---|---|
| Artwork | Full-colour, dye-sublimated through the fabric | Specified around the cloth, hem and weight rather than a printed drop |
| Layout | Designed around the front drop panel, double-ended on the flat top | Laid down the centreline, or across the width as place runners |
| Edges and hems | Hems specified so the drop hangs straight | Turned hems and mitred corners that sit flat and do not curl |
| Laundering | Colour survives folding, transport and a season of events | Colour specified for commercial laundering, nightly if needed |
| Lay | Full-length, floating or across the table | Centreline or across the width |
| Transport | Folds flat and irons out | Bundled and stacked for the store room |
| Minimum order | 12 runners | 12 runners |

| Best for | Trade shows, demos, receptions and retail displays | Restaurants, hotels, cafes and clubs |
When a printed runner is the right call
A printed runner on a display table is seen edge-on down the centreline, upside down from the far side and, most of all, head-on at the front drop. Print is dye-sublimated through the fabric, so the colour survives folding and a season of events, and the front drop carries the primary mark at a size that reads across a room. It folds flat for transport and irons out. If you control the whole table and want maximum branding, a fitted printed throw does it better and we will say so. For the print method itself, read the fabric and printing guide.
When a woven runner is the right call
A restaurant runner is laid, dined on, wiped past, stripped and washed, often nightly. What decides whether it survives is the edge: turned hems that do not curl after repeated washes, mitred corners that sit flat and cloth with the weight to stay down when plates arrive. Colour is specified for commercial laundering so a runner never fades to a different shade than its tablecloth partner. It suits restaurants, hotels, cafes and clubs, and it works across the width as place runners for two-tops.
What about weddings, venues and seasonal sets?
Both routes can work. A wedding or event runner starts from the table plan, with the cloth chosen for drape and photography and spares included. A venue programme holds your cut list and colour references so a reorder matches. Whichever cloth you pick, a runner decorates the centreline of the table. It is not heat or spill protection.
The verdict
Pick printed when the runner has to carry artwork at a show, demo, reception or display.
Pick woven when it has to survive service and laundering in a restaurant, hotel or club.
